Mizzing Menz Bar and Mollyz Diner (both formerly of 2104 Gottingen)? Theyll be re-opening in their new home at 2182 Gottingen during the early part of April, says Doug Melanson, who co-owns both businesses. Our opening date slid by about four weeks...due to construction and working with the city and getting the right permits, he adds. But constructions going well now and the kitchen, dish room and storage rooms are all good to go. Any big changes? Well, climacophobics will certainly be pleased because both businesses are now on one floor. While this seems potentially problematic for people who want to enjoy grub at Mollyz without being inundated by bar music, it wont be: For now, at least, Mollyz is only going to be open during low-key bar hours---from 10am-3pm---for lunch and brunch. (Catering services are still available, too.) The new venue doesnt have any fryers, so the Mollyz menu has also been downsized: Its yummy artery-cloggers are no longer available.
Its more of a health-conscious menu, shares Melanson. Were developing new soups and sandwiches and wraps. And while all the fried goodies from the diners famous weekend brunch menu are toast, favourites such as the chicken benny and the breakfast burritos will still likely be available, as well as new brunch fare. Decor-wise, its going to be the same feel, but better than before, says Melanson. Gay bar Menz is decked out with a metal and industrial look and boasts fireplaces in three of the rooms. Melansons eager to show off the new space---and to see all you lovely loyal customers again. You get to know a lot of the customers on a personal level. And we miss them. We havent seen anybody since January...so were having withdrawal symptoms here.
