This morning’s weather notwithstanding, it’s almost winter—and that means it’s almost Oval time. This year HRM’s favourite geometric ice surface ditches the temporary trailers and invites skaters to enjoy this swag new pavilion.
Councillor Jennifer Watts tweeted the following pics this morning of the almost-open facility and some of its amenities. Along with the skate rental, washrooms and warming areas, the pavilion will house equipment, staff offices and feature skate-sharpening.

Seagate Construction has been building the 6,750 square foot, $2.5-million complex since the spring. Once complete it will house outdoor and indoor programs and public activities throughout the year. Here’s how it’s looking from the outside.
The lodge-like design was approved by council back in April as part of phase two of the Oval’s construction on the North Common.
It’ll finally be open to the public when the Oval begins its season; likely next week. That’s give or take a few rain days. The warm, wet weather outside has been making it hard to sustain ice, says HRM.
Check out the pavilion back when it was a little less constructed in this drone video from DSRA Architecture.
