Up and at ’em

Reasons to get up at the crack of dawn and make the most of your day while everyone else is still snoozing.

Up and at ’em
Hit the decks early at the Canada Games Centre

5:30am
Lane swim, Canada Games Centre, 26 Thomas Raddall Drive
If you’re still rubbing the sleep from your eyes, a dip into this chlorine bath should help wake you up. Swim lengths of Clayton Park’s amazing competition-sized pool in the wee hours (5:30-9:45am), Monday through Friday.

6am
Bootcamp, Evolve Fitness, 5540 Cunard Street
Nothing like high- intensity training before the sun comes up to kick your day (and ass) into gear. This quick and effective weekday 45-minute workout is usually a packed room of extra keen Evolve-goers, meaning extra motivation.

6am Cyclone Fitness, 2-5187 Salter Street
Test your endurance and get your heart rate high with a 60-minute cardio spin class (Tuesdays and Thursdays) or use your own body weight for a head-to-toe workout in a 60-minute TRX class (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). Bonus points if you ride your bicycle to the studio.

6:30am
Moksha60, Moksha Yoga, 1512 Dresden Row
We promise there’s a bonus to crawling out of your toasty bed burrito for this—sweet, sweet heat. Monday through Friday this early-morning, 60-minute class gives you the opportunity to start your day stretched out and toxin free.

6:30am
Java Blend Coffee Roasters, 6027 North Street
Monday through Friday (a little later on weekends) you can meditate to the sound of steaming milk while you knock back your first Americano of the day at 6:30am while the truly caffeine-deprived fail to drag their butts anywhere.

7am
Speed Skate/Public Skate, Halifax Oval, 5775 Cogswell Street
The zamboni crew gets up super early to prep Halifax’s backyard rink for your blades so you best be making good use of it. The Oval schedule varies a little bit depending on the day but there tends to be a speed skate (sometimes paired with a public skate, if you’re not speedy) as early as 7am.

7am
Carb up, Two if by Sea, 66 Ochterloney Street
Lift the most important weight of your day—a hot out of the oven, hefty as hell, buttered to the max croissant from this Dartmouth A-lister. This thing beats a kettle bell any day, but yadda yadda yadda moderation.
