While Neon Dreams is notorious for avoiding genre pigeonholing, member Adrian Morris shines some light on how to define the duo’s sound in light of the Best Pop Band win. “There’s almost a new wave of artists right now that are the sound of alt-pop and we fit in that box. It’s this cool wave that’s not necessarily bubblegum-top-40 but takes a lot of influences from rock and hip hop. You write a pop song but the instrumentation draws from elsewhere,” he offers, before listing other examples of alt-pop, including Billie Eilish. A big comparison? Maybe. Earned?
