Members-only Bars: private drinking in Halifax.

New year's resolution: join a new club. At most of Halifax's members-only bars, becoming a member is simple as can be. Here's four you can join.

Charlie's Club, aka the Cunard Street Press Club.

Resolutes Club

Membership is $10/year. Members get access to free pool, free darts, shuffleboard and the ultimate giveaway: occasional free drink tickets! Two members are needed to represent newbies, but don't cause a ruckus and you can count yourself in. You can visit three times before signing up and are always sure to find a comfortable community atmosphere with a mix of people.

5461 Inglis Street, 492-9771

Locas Bar and Billiards

Membership is $24/year ($12 students/military) and members can bring in four guests. You can play pool, cribbage, darts or relax in a booth with some friends to chat or watch a game.

5430 Doyle Street, 423-2522

Charlie's Club

For $1/year, membership is hardly going to burn a hole in your pocket. Members can bring two guests to this laidback community pub where "Everyone knows your name." Feel free to order in food and don't forget to play a few rounds of pool---at 50 cents a game, you're sure to brush up on your billiard skills.

5580 Cunard Street, 492-1401

Dooly's

Membership at this members-only Dooly's is $17 for life. You get a free hour of bowling (which costs $10.95 regularly) and 10 percent off at all other Dooly's locations. Members can bring in up to four guests. And for every 10 hours of pool, members get one free hour.
