According to Zane Kelsall, the recipe for a great barista is, “one part attention to detail and two parts care for the customers—that’s what creates an experience that people enjoy.” Well, Halifax seems to be on the same page, and that is why he’s taken home Best Barista four times now. “I’m just an insane person when it comes to coffee—it’s all I really think about. My passion is being behind an espresso bar and that really comes through in what I do,” he says. And he’s modest, too. Kelsall acknowledges the many other great baristas in this city, saying they make him feel that much more honoured to win it.
